We are pleased to invite you to our 14^th annual Green Mountain Challenge soccer tournament, hosted by the West River Sports Association and the Mountain Soccer Club. This year's dates are June 21^st& 22^nd, 2008 at our Weston Island Fields. Please see below for general information.

Now in our 14^th year, we anticipate a fantastic tournament with great competition and Vermont hospitality! At the Green Mountain Challenge, you will play all your games in one location that has five fields. The U12 divisions will be playing 8V8 on a modified field. Our organization, along with The Vermont Soccer Association, has adopted the playing recommendations of US Youth Soccer.

While we are certainly not the largest tournament in New England, we do pride ourselves on being the most family and player friendly event. Instead of spending your day in the car looking for the next venue; you play your games, and then relax in the tent. If your whole club is here, you can easily walk to any field to see your other teams play. With a variety of good food available and a large tent to provide shade, you can comfortably spend all day at the fields; or explore the wonderful area of Southern Vermont.

We are pleased to have the Stratton Resort as this year's official lodging sponsor for the Green Mountain Challenge. They have an array of hotel rooms and condos to offer for housing at the tournament. Applications are due by April 15^th, 2008.The maximum number of teams accepted for each gender/age division is eight. Teams will be accepted as applications arrive, and divisions will be closed as they become full. For the last few years, we have filled most of the age divisions before the deadline, so apply early. Final acceptance decisions will be mailed on May 4^th, 2008.

Location: Weston Island fields (Four full size fields & one modified field – U12’s); off Route 100, Weston, Vermont.

Roster Size: A maximum roster of 18, including up to 3 guest players. U12’s will play 8V8 on a modified field. The U14’s & U16’s will play 11V11 on full size fields.

Format: All teams will be scheduled for at least 3 games. Two brackets will be made in each age division, bracket winners will advance to final. The bracket runners-up will play to decide 3^rd place.

Game Length: Thirty minute halves, with a five-minute half time – all age groups.

Referees: USSF registered referees will be used for all games. The three-referee system will be used for all games. We are interested in traveling referees who wish to work some games.

Awards: All age division winners will receive a team trophy as well as individual player awards. Runners-up will receive individual player awards. The third place team will receive a team trophy.

Entry Fee: $450 per team, due with application. The fee is not refundable once a team has been accepted. Checks will be returned to those teams that are not accepted.

Sanction: This tournament is sanctioned by: US Youth Soccer. All teams must be in good standing with their State Associations and USYS. Each team must have a state approved roster with a maximum of eighteen players and player passes for each player. Up to three guest players per team are permitted (no more than 18 players total). Permission to Travel forms are required for all teams from outside Region I. Each team must show and hold a completed Medical Release form for each player.
